A Special Message from U.S. Congressman Mike Lawler Rep. New York 17th District
Remarks to the Pharmaceutical industry at the MM+M Convene Conference regarding disparities in pharmaceutical marketing to ethnic minorities.
Market Overview for Pharma Companies
In 2023, ONE IN THREE Americans will be treated by a physician of South Asian descent.
South Asian, Middle Eastern and Filipino Americans are far more likely to suffer from the nation’s three leading killers: Heart Disease, Diabetes and Cancer; as well as numerous other health issues on the Pharma radar.
More than 250,000 Physicians or approximately 25% of all Doctors in the U.S. are of Indian, Arab or Filipino descent, according to The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) The National Association of Arab American Physicians and the Filipino Physicians Association.
A HUGELY disproportionate amount of the drug prescriptions in this country are written by these doctors – far more than any other ethnic segments.
Pharma companies have not directed a penny of their multi-Billion dollar marketing efforts towards these communities…leaving a huge blind spot in their marketing efforts.
Ethnic minoritymarkets that grossly over indexed in pandemic related hospitalizations (a situation called “a travesty” by CNN) received virtually none of the covid informational ad campaign dollars. According to both Comscore Media Metrics and GFK-MRI-Simmons, you cannot effectively reach these market segments through mainstream media.
